Great wine experience

Visiting La Cité du Vin was amazing. I enjoyed exploring the exhibits. It was also fun to learn about winemaking from around the globe. The interactive wine tasting session was my favorite. Tasting so many different flavors in one place was incredible. Visiting the Belvédère for panoramic views is a must. You can see the most beautiful views of Bordeaux from up there. A truly unforgettable experience!

Perfect for wine lovers

I had a wonderful time at La Cité du Vin. The visiting companion made it easy to explore the exhibitions. I learned a lot about global wine culture. Enjoying a glass of wine while looking over Bordeaux from the 8th floor was magical. I also loved the interactive exhibits. It felt like I was traveling the world through wine. Highly recommended!

Cité du Vin Tickets

START YOUR WINE ADVENTURE

Your adventure begins at La Cité du Vin, located on the historic Quai de Bacalan. The Cité du Vin tickets give you access to the permanent exhibition displayed in 18 themed spaces. While outside, you’ll notice the building’s unique shape. Its design is inspired by the motion of swirling wine in a glass. After this, you can make your way inside. Every display is interactive, and together they show everything from ancient winemaking tools to modern production techniques. Did you know Bordeaux’s wine trade shaped much of the city’s economy and architecture? The permanent exhibition shows this history through tactile, visual, and audio displays. You will see how wine influenced society, trade, and art. The immersive design makes learning about wine both fun and memorable.

THE CITÉ DU VIN EXPERIENCE

Explore the exhibitions to discover how climate, culture, and innovation shape wine production. The World of Vines exhibit explains how grapevines adapt to different climates. The Gallery of Civilisations traces wine from ancient Egypt to modern Bordeaux. Enjoy a verre de vin (glass of wine) chosen from a curated selection of 15 wines. You can also enjoy jus de raisin (grape juice) if you prefer a non-alcoholic option. Interactive displays let you explore vineyards around the world. Use the digital visit companion to hear stories and explanations in eight languages. ‘Vineyards from the Skies’ and ‘Six Wine Families’ exhibits show grape types and wine styles. The ‘Culture and Civilisations’ area explores wine in religion, art, and society. Learn about trade routes, wine bottles, and label design over centuries. Every corner of Cité du Vin connects wine to culture, history, and the land it comes from, making it the perfect starting point before visiting the Bordeaux wine region in person.

BELVÉDÈRE, CULTURE, AND DINING

Climb to the 8th floor to reach the Belvédère at 115 feet (35 meters) above ground. There you will see a panoramic view of Bordeaux and the surrounding vineyards. Sip a glass of wine while enjoying the sights. Fun fact: the building’s height aligns with the horizon of Bordeaux’s vineyards. After your visit, browse the boutique for wines from global vineyards. Restaurant Le 7 serves meals with stunning city views. Latitude 20, on the other hand, offers casual wine tastings and snacks. Both spaces offer stunning views of Bordeaux to complete your visit.

Iconic design of La Cité du Vin

La Cité du Vin was designed by XTU architects from Paris and the London-based design studio Casson Mann. Their project won a 2010 Bordeaux tender, attracting 114 bids. Its curved glass and metal shape show wine swirling, the flow of vines, and the Garonne River. Golden reflections change with the light and match the city’s stone buildings. Materials also reference wine: wood-like barrels, glass-like bottles, and aluminum-like vats. The building spans 10 levels, showing a blend of curves, light, and materials.
